The Glaciers Inventory is a data base entirely devoted to "Glaciers of Aosta Valley" with information about current and historical glaciers, biographical data, annotation of events dealing with the glacial environment, details about some glaciers and a photografic inventory.
The development of Glaciers Inventory is a project of many years sponsored by the Territory, Environment and Water Resources Department and by the Information System Department; it is managed by the Foundation Montagna Sicura with the scientific and methodological advice of the University of Milan - Department of Earth Sciences "Ardito Desio "- Group Research " Glaciology "(director of other regional databases) in order to carry out a product corresponding to national and international standards and in particular to those of the World Glaciers Inventory. Thus, the Glaciers Inventory is both a popular instrument, in agreement with the scientific standards adopted at the international level, and an instrument of knowledge of the territory, through which you can evaluate, for example, the lost extension and volume of glacial areas and the resulting losses in water resources.
